SMASH Activities

The SMASH project follows a cyclical structure, alternating between workshops and focus groups. The development of the workshops, along with the focus groups, is participant-led, meaning that the involved youth will be empowered to create their path of learning.

Local Workshops
"Smashing hate speech online"

The core of the SMASH project lies in the SMASHING Hate Speech Online Workshops (Parts I and II), which are designed with migrant youth and youth workers at their centre, addressing their specific needs and lived realities. Part I focuses on critical media analysis, equipping participants with the tools to recognise and deconstruct harmful online content. Part II shifts to content creation, empowering them to produce inclusive, respectful media. Together, the two parts address both sides of digital engagement—as consumers and as creators—ensuring participants can not only identify and respond effectively to online hate, but also avoid unintentionally spreading it further.  Each national cycle will conclude with a focus group to evaluate the SMASH method.

International Blended Mobility

After gathering insights from the national workshops and focus groups, five participants from each partner country (Lithuania, Spain, France, and Italy) will join a four-day in-person international workshop in Italy, hosted by Centro per lo Sviluppo Creativo Danilo Dolci (SMASH partner). This blended mobility, co-designed by the young participants themselves, will reflect their lived experiences, needs, and perspectives, and will be followed by a series of online sessions to deepen the collective learning.Following the international mobility workshop, a focus group is conducted with a group of young participants to evaluate the SMASH method within the context of transnational mobility. A final focus group will also be conducted after the mobility to evaluate the SMASH method in a transnational context and gather collective feedback.

Capacity-Building Workshops for Youth Workers

Building on the learnings from previous workshops, each partner country will organise a capacity-building workshop aimed at equipping youth workers and professionals with practical tools to apply the SMASH method in their own contexts. These sessions will focus on translating youth-led insights into actionable strategies. Each workshop will conclude with a focus group to exchange experiences, gather feedback, and contribute to the final refinement of the methodology.
